Upcoming LA Openings and Events Radar For May and June

When one restaurant door closes, at least one new window gets ready to pop open. Right now, there are some sunny highlights on the openings horizon between new brick-and-mortar eateries to food-centric special events and markets:

• Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar is due on May 14 in Studio City. Lined with sumptuous red seats, the local outpost of an Australian pizza chain looks much more like a happening nightclub than a pizzeria (11928 Ventura Blvd.).  [via Eater]

• A new Vietnamese restaurant called Nonglá opens on May 20 in West LA. Khanh Phan and her children Elaine and Victor Phuong are behind this family operation, with Phan at the stoves plotting regional specialties (2055 Sawtelle Blvd.) [via Eater]

• The Sunset Strip Farmers Market kicks off on May 31 in a Sunset Boulevard parking lot next to the old storied Spago West Hollywood. Area restaurants have been invited to participate in a “tasting pavilion” to showcase dishes inspired by chefs’ visits to the market. [via LA Times]

Chaya Downtown launches its annual Japanese summer beer garden weekdays from 4PM-close beginning June 5, featuring izakaya bites under $10 such as sea scallop miso gratin and grilled corn with feta cheese. It can be experienced through August 31(525 S. Flower St.; 213-236-9577).

• Chef Josef Centeno of Bäco Mercat will soon bring Tex-Mex to downtown LA with Bar Amá. The debut date is still to be announced, but it will move into the just-shuttered Urban Noodle (118 W. Fourth St.). Centeno describes it as a “bar with a heavy emphasis on food.” [via LA Times]
