Jeremiah Tower left an indelible mark on the Bay Area dining scene. His restaurant Stars, a shrine in equal parts to Californian cuisine and celebrity, shone brightly in the late '80s and '90s. Since then, his global empires imploded and his kiss-and-tell writings caused many a riff in the food world, but it seems he's mellowed out of late. He showed up for the Chez Panisse 40-year anniversary celebrations last year and now he's returning for one night only this month, for a reunion dinner with his most famous cohorts - Mark Franz and Emily Luchetti along with Epic Roasthouse and Waterbar chefs Jan Birnbaum and Park Ulrich.
The six-course dinner, which is being dubbed Stars Realigned, will be held on June 21, and tickets for the exclusive are likely to go fast. The event, a six-course sit-down dinner kicks off with hors d’ouevres, champagne and campari cocktails (just like the good old days) at Waterbar, followed by a collaboratively prepared six-course sit-down dinner with wine pairings to be held in Epic’s private dining room. Cronies from back in the day, Narsai David (of KCBS Radio) and restaurateur and grand dame Cecilia Chiang (Mandarin Oriental) be joining the party to moderate the group’s reminiscences. They’ll also be auctioning several lots including a private five-course private party for 10 at either Epic or Waterbar. The Dinner Party Project is part of a new series of collaborative dinners leading up to the SF Chef 2012 event.
Stars Realigned: The Dinner Party Project, June 21, $350 per person with a percentage of proceeds benefitting CUESA. Individual and group tickets can be purchased here.
