Papilles’ BYOB Deal Includes a French Wine Steal

Santos Uy, the proprietor of the intimate six-month-old Hollywood French bistro Papilles, also serves as his restaurant’s wine director. He’s packed a lot of choice into such a small space, with Old World varietals that explore French, natural, orange and indigenous wines.

But if your heart is still set on bringing your own bottle, Uy is now offering a BYOB option on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The deal still shows his leanings, though: on those nights, if the bottle you bring in is French, there is no corkage fee. A $15 corkage fee applies to any bottle that is not French. Perhaps that’s Uy’s cheeky way to show what country he feels produces the best grapes. Even with a $15 corkage, it’s possible to eat for a reasonable price at Papilles, where a three-course meal from chef Tim Carey’s relatively abbreviated weekly menu costs about $35.
