Meat Cocktails Come to Shaka Zulu

Having first encountered the meat-based cocktail in a ski resort in Canada (we sampled a bacon Bloody Mary) and enjoyed it greatly, we were less horrified than some at the news that cavernous Camden nightspot Shaka Zulu was opening a Meat Bar showcasing a variety of meat-based cocktails. In fact, it's fair to say we were pretty excited about the whole shebang.

On the menu there is - praise be - a Bloody Bacon, concocted with housemade Bloody mix and bacon vodka, and garnished with celery, crispy smoked bacon and a skewer of soft cheese and cherry tomatoes. There's also a Meatequita (tequila reposado infused with chorizo, vegetable juice, balsamic vinegar, smoked sea salt pepper and port, served either straight up or with beef biltong strips and chorizo) and one we're less sure about, but are trying to remain open-minded about: the Wheeling Salmon, pictured above. It's made with smoked salmon-infused vodka, lemon pepper and ice, ad served with traditional martini accompaniments including smoked salmon, stuffed baby red peppers and olives. Don't knock 'em till you've tried 'em, people.
