Eat, Drink, Party for Great Causes: Chefs in the City, SoundBites and More

Confections on parade for rooftop reception
Lovely late spring weather backdrops opportunities for food and drink at great parties that benefit greater causes. Here are three ways to have fun helping others.

May 14: Star chef Michel Richard (Citronelle, Central) has rounded up 20 talented local chefs who will each prepare a five-course tasting menu (plus wine) for one of the intimate, themed tables at Chefs in the City - a high flying Cystic Fibrosis Foundation benefit that takes place at the National Association of Home Builders (6 PM cocktails, 7 PM dinner; $500; 1201 15th St. NW; call 301-657-8444, ext 208 for tickets).
May 20: At SoundBites, happening in and around the 9:30 Club (815 V St. NW), guests will enjoy bands, a DJ set by music curator, Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation and all-you-can-eat food from trendy food trucks and restaurants including Cork, Jackie’s, Jose Andres’ Pepe, Shake Shack and Taylor Gourmet. The event benefits DC Central Kitchen’s efforts to combat hunger and create opportunities for the needy (5-10 PM; $40; go here for tickets).

June 12: Top U.S. pastry chefs, including Christina Tosi (Momofuku Milk Bar; 2012 James Beard Rising Star Chef Award winner) and Top Chef: Just Desserts contestant Matthew Petersen (CityZen), along with trendsetting mixologists, will cater a reception on a stunning rooftop location overlooking the Capitol Building and National Mall to benefit Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America (7:30 PM; $125; 101 Constitution Ave. NW; go here for information and tickets).
