Bistrotheque. Information about Shrimpy’s has been slowly drip fed via Twitter and a picture is gradually forming of what’s in store. Here's what we know:
An old petrol station in King’s Cross is being transformed into The Filling Station Forecourt, something that they’re promising will be “a home of cultural debate, performances and screenings through the summer.” Sitting alongside this creative hub, you’ll find Shrimpy’s, a 50 cover restaurant, opening May 24, serving, by the sounds of things, cuisine that is a cross between Californian and Mexican.
So who or what exactly is the eponymous Shrimpy? Nobody’s really sure if she’s real or the figment of an overactive imagination, but currently all the clues point to her being an eccentric lady d’un certain age who spent a lot of time in Palm Springs and has a penchant for pineapples.
Bear in mind that this venture is being brought to you by the people who put on drag cabaret in a French bistro in an East London warehouse - so anything could happen.
Bookings are being taken at www.shrimpys.co.uk/.
