City Grit Launching Outdoor Space, Big Gay Ice Cream Party

The garden at City Grit
One of the great joys of dining during the warm months is discovering NYC's off-the-radar outdoor gardens. We just got word that City Grit, a SoHo culinary salon that hosts special dinners and guest chefs each months, is gearing up to roll out their outdoor garden. Well, it's not quite a garden - the building that houses the salon used to be a Catholic school and this patch of concrete used to be their playground. It comes equipped with a basketball hoop and statue of the Virgin Mary - we're thinking that you won't find that combo in any of the city's other outdoor spaces. If you want to check it out, you can stop by City Grit's first event of the outdoor season, a shrimp boil at 2 PM on Sunday, May 13. Get those details here.

On Sunday, The Big Gay Ice Cream peeps are throwing a party for the folks from San Francisco's Humphry Slocombe ice cream shop. The Slocombe folks are in town to celebrate their new Ice Cream Book, and they will be on hand to sign copies (which will be available for purchase). The shindig goes from 4 to 6 PM and will feature a DJ and special ice cream treats. The shop is located at 125 East 7th Street - isn't it nice that east coast and west coast ice cream fanatics can all get along?
