Bishops and Barons Bringing Supper Club Style to 14th Street This Week

The East Side of 14th Street is about to get a little more swankified this week with the opening of Bishops and Barons, a new lounge and restaurant from Danny Kane, the former owner of The Gates, a Chelsea club that was popular for a spell before it shuttered in late 2010. Kane enlisted some top-notch industry vets to come on as consultants. The posh room is designed by Patrick Fahey and the bar and small bites are from Dushan Zaric and Kevin Chun, all three of whom cut their chops at Employees Only and Macao Trading Co. (if those haunts are any indication, expect this one to be popular with cocktail fanatics).

The restaurant takes its inspiration from old-time New York, while the decor utilizes elements from classic city supper clubs (which is a total trend these days) the name is taken from the gangs of NY era. As far as the menu, the focus on classic American fare is about as contemporary as anything you'd find in other sceney joints. Expect cocktail friendly chow like crispy deviled eggs, blue-crab stuffed artichokes and a "5 points burger" to keep the carnivores happy.

Of course, something from Kane wouldn't be complete without something to lure in the high rollers, and here it's a VIP area where you can request your own bartender. That room is decked out with vintage black-and-white photos and a zebra print rug. Look for the opening this week and take a look at another picture below (243 West 14th St.).
