The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Tea-Smoked Pork Belly at Frej

A week ago, we gave you the lowdown on new part-time Brooklyn eatery Frej via our video first look, but last night we finally got a chance to taste their much raved about $45 tasting menu. While the first few courses were so dainty (yet beautiful) that they bordered on comically small, the flavors contained in each were so interesting, subtle and brilliant that it was hard to pick just one course in particular to write about. The tea-smoked pork belly was probably the highlight of the meal - it was smothered in a smoked cottage cheese sauce and garnished with crumbly bits of rye bread. The combo of the three elements was an absolutely mind-blowing bite and after this meal we can certainly see why the tiny three-night-a-week eatery is already booked through the end of July. Frej is located at 90 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg.
