After a day at Coney Island beach this Memorial Day weekend, we'd be remiss to leave without grabbing a pie at the famed Totonno's on Neptune Ave, just a few blocks north of the boardwalk. The Brooklyn pizzeria is one of the oldest in the city, originating in 1924, and has been slinging its coal-oven pies to Brooklynites and tourists ever since. Between the lovably curt waitresses, the plastic plates and Dixie cups and cash-only one-item menu, Totonno's has no shortage of Brooklyn charm. But its pies absolutely live up to the hype - a perfectly charred, (not burnt) crust, sweet tomato sauce and real mozzarella cheese along with some fresh toppings (we opted for peppers, onions and mushrooms). Totonno's is located at 1524 Neptune Avenue.
