We haven't visited Jim Lahey's Co. in awhile - admittedly, probably since the early days when it first opened, but an event had us in that particular neck of the woods last night so we stopped in to see if the pies were still as tasty as we remember. Well, clearly the joint is still a neighborhood favorite as it was considerably packed even on a low-key Sunday night. (We can't imagine what it looks like on a Friday.) We ordered two pies: the meatball and the mushroom and jalapeño. The former pie was hands down our favorite - sweet caramelized onions, salty kalamata olives and savory veal meatballs lay atop a perfectly doughy, fluffy and charred crust, creamy mozzarella and a sweet tomato sauce. We didn't mean to polish off the entire thing so quickly, but this pie was seriously killer. Co. is located at 230 Ninth Ave.; 212-243-1105.
