The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Gazpacho at Westville East

When restaurants start listing gazpacho as the only soup on the menu, you know that summer has unofficially begun in NYC; and for us, summer doesn't officially begin until we've had our first bowl. Westville, the perpetually-mobbed Manhattan chainlet with a daily and seasonally rotating menu does a solid rendition of the soup that includes the requisite pepper, onions, tomato and cilantro plus fills it with diced jicama, green apple (oddly enough) and slices of ripe avocado. It's a perfect gazpacho in both taste and texture - the broth is thin yet chunky from the crisp veggies and perfectly salty, tomatoey and vinegar-y at the same time.
