The 8 Best Barbecue Restaurants in New York

A plate from Dinosaur BBQ
While the Big Apple doesn't have its own signature barbecue style, restaurants around town let you sample pretty much any type of drool-worthy 'cue. Whether you're craving some Central-Texas-style dry-rub or some less traditional offerings from a Malaysian-inspired pitmaster, the eight eateries below are bound to leave you loosening that belt buckle to scarf down a few more bites. Click through the slideshow to see which BBQ is the city's best, and let us know about your favorites in the comments.

  5. Not including RUB on 23rd St. undermines the integrity of this entire list.

  6. Blue Smoke is vastly overrated. And Rub, especially when the burnt ends are available, must be on your list.

  7. I agree that Rub needs to be on this list. It is my favorite too.

  8. daisy mae's......not very good does not belong on the list. Maybe it was good when it first opened, now, not worth the trip....

  9. This list is incomplete at best. Virgil's has to be at or near the top; in fact, I have for years have had clients from Texas to North Carolina make purposeful trips to NYC just to hit Virgil's. And some of the places listed are just plain overrated.

  13. ThIs article feels like it was written by a tourist rather than someone who knows anything about barbecue. While ironic, Virgil's does have some of the best bbq in the city, and Dinosaur is as overrated add they come.

  14. Not a barbeque joint per se, but SKINFLINT's in Bayridge, (79th & 5th Ave.)Brooklyn has Ribs on their menue that are to die for. Recently has some folks visiting from La. Cajun country & they were amazed at how good they were. & Their burgers are the BEST in NYC!

  15. For those of us that live in the East Village, you're not going to find many of us that'll leave the area when we have Georgia's BBQ on Orchard.

  16. Okay, I'm convinced. 1st I've got to try RUB, then Virgil's. If "anonymous" thinks they're better than Blue Smoke well than...Yee Haww!

  17. RUB is overrated in my book, the bbq sauce tastes like it came from a bottle of Kraft.

  18. RUB certainly over Daisy Mae's, but RUB is ordinary at best. Dinosaur may be big and bustling, but it's the best BBQ in NYC in my book! (Coming from Memphis, I grew up on the stuff)
