Video rentals, tanning salons and dollar stores are the kind of places you'll usually find in one of the zillions of nondescript strip malls that dot America. However, often times some of a city's best eateries are tucked away next to an unassuming Mail Boxes Etc. From intimate sushi bars serving melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to old-school continental restaurants serving juicy veal chops, here are a few decent options for strip mall dining. What are your favorite strip mall eats? Let us know in the comments.
Chef Andy also hosts a once a month meeting of the "funky food club" at Le Bistro. It features unusual foods not likely to be found on ANY restaurant menu and members do not know what Andy is preparing ahead of time. Check out the blog funkyfoodclub.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLotus of Siam in Las Vegas is awesome. Not only is it in a strip mall but it's in a really unattractive and undesirable strip mall. Of course that won't stop me from visiting each time I'm in town!
ReplyDeleteSundae Cafe Tybee Island, GA. Nestled between a gas station and a liquor store, lunch is casual, but at night white linens transform the restaurant into a higher end joint. A.J Baker and Kevin Carpenter are the owners/chefs. This restaurant was mentioned in the May issue of Southern Living Magazine and is Paula Deen's favorite restaurant on Tybee.
ReplyDeleteLeila's in Oak Park, CA is top rated for very good reasons. They take food to new heights. It is fine dining cuisine in a very comfortable setting.
ReplyDeleteSushi OTA in San Diego is the best sushi in town, and is in a horrible strip mall next to a 7-11 and Planned Parenthood office.
