Where to Celebrate Easter in London

A festive Easter egg at Shaka Zulu
We Londoners are all too prone to seeing the Easter weekend as an opportunity to get out of town, especially if we've got kids in tow. But if you are sticking around, you'll be well-rewarded with plenty of family fun on offer at some venues that you might not usually consider particularly child-friendly. With golden tickets, Easter egg hunts and even Alice in Wonderland-themed parties, here's a quick glimpse at some of the eggstravaganzas on offer...

Egg Hunt at Shaka Zulu
The idea of an alfresco Easter egg hunt is a lovely one - until you remember that this is England and you're as likely to get rain in April as you are spring sunshine. So you might want to check out Shaka Zulu in Camden, where on April 8 families will be invited to try and find some of the hundreds of eggs hidden throughout the 27,000-sq.-ft. venue. All that hunting is hungry work, so you'll also be able to snag a traditional South African buffet for just £15.95 for adults and £8.50 for children under 12. Add in entertainment including face painting, jugglers and plate spinners, as well as goody bags for the kids, and that could be your Easter cracked. Call 020 3376 9911 or email reservations@shaka-zulu.com to book.

Golden Tickets at the Capital
Just across the road from Hyde Park and next to Harrods, The Capital Hotel will be celebrating the Easter weekend in traditional style. From Good Friday through Easter Monday, lunch will be served direct from the serving trolley with a choice of salmon coulibiac (Friday), leg of lamb (Saturday), fillet of Mey beef (Sunday) and rack of lamb (Monday). Served with all the trimmings and offered alongside an array of starters and desserts, the price is £29.50 per person and £19.50 for children under 12. Plus, each table of four or more at lunch or dinner will receive an Easter egg decorated by The Capital’s own p√Ętissier. On each of the four days over the holiday weekend, one of these eggs will contain a golden ticket redeemable against an overnight stay, a bottle of champagne or an "English Afternoon Tea Party."

The Rib Room in Wonderland
Being huge fans of Alice in Wonderland, we're rather taken by the Rib Room's plans for Easter, even though we don't quite fit the two-12 demographic that it's designed for. The private dining room will, be transformed into Alice's Wonderland, complete with a dedicated menu, games, dancing, magic and balloon making. And while the kids are getting down to business, the adults can tuck into a three-course meal featuring modern Brit dishes with a 21st-century twist, such as the signature Casterbridge Aberdeen Angus rib of beef, prawn cocktail and an array of classic desserts. Cost is £60 per adult, plus the cost of the dishes from the kids menu, and all diners who eat at The Rib Room from April 6-9 will be entered into a prize draw to win the ultimate kid’s party up to the value of £4,500, as will anyone who signs up to The Rib Room newsletter in March or April. More details on 020-7858-7250 or via reservations@theribroom.co.uk.

Easter Egg Hunt at Duke of York Square
The Hop & Hunt Easter Challenge at Duke of York Square on April 7 offers families the opportunity to solve riddles hidden within shops on the square before picking out a golden egg. Each eggs offers the chance to win an XBox or £200 shopping spree in the area, and there will even be an Easter bunny around for anyone who wants a pic taken with the furry friend.
