The Howard Theatre Reopens With Music and a Marcus Samuelsson Menu

When the historic Howard Theatre, where the likes of Duke Ellington and the Supremes came to fame, reopens its doors this week after a $29 million redo, the Shaw area venue will host a star-studded lineup including Wanda Sykes, Chuck Berry, Bad Brains and Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and feature a sophisticated, moderately priced supper-club menu from consulting celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson (Harlem’s Red Rooster).

Two hours before seated shows, patrons can dine on Southern-accented American fare like blackened catfish with corn salad, fried chicken and short ribs. For standing-room-only shows, a streamlined menu will be offered. The weekly Sunday brunch, featuring shrimp and grits, roast beef and the Harlem Gospel Choir, is likely to be a social and foodie event. Check out the upcoming schedule and the menus here.
