There are branches of Lebanese-Armenian restaurant Almayass in far-flung locales like Beirut and Kuwait, and on Thursday the family behind the international chain is set to open their first outpost in New York City. Located in the Flatiron District, the new eatery (which has been in the works for some time) will feature a menu of Lebanese dishes modified with traditional Armenian techniques and spices. Many of the plates are meant for sharing, which is also encouraged by the location's large tables, including an extra big 10-12-seater that is ideal for celebrations and larger gatherings.
There are two entrances on 21st Street - one leads directly into the restaurant (guests pass a custom made piece of glass art as they enter) and the other brings you into a smaller lounge area, which will serve a limited selection of menu items along with cocktails and wine. The restaurant, whose name and logo is meant to evoke leaves dancing in the trees after a warm breeze, opens on Thursday (24 East 21st St.; 212-473-3100).
