Empire State Building to Glow for James Beard

Sign number 1,026 that the US is more obsessed with food culture than ever? The Empire State Building is set to light up in honor of James Beard. On Monday, May 7 top chefs from across the country will converge on New York City for the annual James Beard Awards, which are like the Oscars of the food world. It's the 25th anniversary of the bash, and the toques coming to town will greeted by something pretty special. On the 7, the Empire State Building will turn orange and yellow. The combo represents the James Beard House. Orange was the color of the parlor walls when the chef himself lived there while yellow represents the pineapple, a symbol of hospitality that has always been incorporated into the house's decor.
