Put on your gaudiest floppy hat and head on over to Freddy Smalls this Saturday for an old-school Derby Day bash. From noon-4PM enjoy fried chicken sandwiches and housemade Old Bay-seasoned potato chips for $15, plus an array of mint juleps including classic, blackberry mint and maple mint for $8 each (11520 Pico Blvd.; 310-479-3000).

For a non-traditional spin on Derby Day, head over to the Blue Cow Kitchen for The Big Cheese Patio Party from 12-3PM. The Blue Cow and The Grilled Cheese Truck are teaming up to provide patrons with grilled cheese sandwiches and cocktails on an expansive outdoor patio plus plenty of TVs to catch the Derby races in action. Enjoy a selection of microbrews and hand-crafted cocktails created by Steve Livigni including an Old-Fashioned on tap. All profits raised from the event will benefit the Men’s Guild for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (350 S. Grand Ave.; 213-621-2249).
