The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: 3 AM Fries At 7A

New York has a long list of dining mainstays, from the halal street carts in Midtown to Keith McNally's white-tiled dining rooms. While East Village 24-hour eatery 7A isn't awash with buzz, surely it deserves to be on this list, if only because we've all been there. Whether it's some much needed sustenance in the wee hours of the morning or some even more fulfilling brunch (and a Bloody Mary) the next day, the totally no-frills establishment has been there for countless New Yorkers when they need it most.

We dropped in this weekend after a spell of bar hopping in the EV. A burger, another beer and the din of excited conversation brought us even further into the early AM - because who wants to go home, anyway? This joint's continued popularity is not about the food - it's about having a cheap place to gather, eat for cheap and get tipsily poetic about life's great (and not so great) questions. There ain't many others like it anymore. And we're not gonna lie, at 3 AM after a night out, those fries taste pretty damn good...
