| The UWS location of Alamo Drafthouse |
There's some major news for those of you who like to enjoy a tipple or two while you watch a movie at the theater.
Eater has word that Austin's beloved
Alamo Drafthouse is going to open a location on the Upper West Side sometime in 2013. In addition to beverage service during the shows, the culinary cinema will offer multi-course tasting menus themed around whatever is on the screen. This opening wasn't possible a year ago, but the laws surrounding booze service in movie theaters have recently changed, so don't be surprised if you see more outposts like this opening around town (which is an exciting development, considering you need to be plastered to enjoy dreck like
The Vow).
Over in Midtown, there is a new coffee shop and French pastry bar that started operation this week in the
Sanctuary Hotel. Dubbed Spresso Cafe, this lobby shop will serve lattes and espressos that can be enjoyed with treats like financiers. There's also an outdoor seating area where you can escape from the surrounding Times Square madness. If you are looking for an alternative to the massive line at the outposts of Starbucks in this hood - we think this sounds like a good idea (132 West 47th St.).
