Taste-Testing the New Doritos Locos Taco at Taco Bell
The Taco Bell Doritos Locos taco dropped like a neon orange-tinted bomb today at Taco Bell locations nationwide. Kaboom! Yep - that's exactly what it sounds like - a Taco Bell taco with a hard shell made of Doritos. Diabolical. Naturally, we decided to "Live Mas" and try the suckers out.
A shiny new Taco Bell location on 29th and 8th in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood was plastered with Doritos Locos posters but doesn't look like crazed taco lovers were lining up at the door - the place was empty. Hysteria fail. We removed the taco's paper wrapper, and were momentarily blinded by the radioactive-orange color of the Doritos shell. Gulp. This was the moment of truth. Taste-wise, its flavor is pretty much exactly the same as a regular hard shell Taco Bell taco: salty, cheesy and bursting with that je nais se quoi of processed goodness that addicts fast food lovers to the brand's grub. The taste of Doritos doesn't hit you until well after you've swallowed a bite. The taco had a "cheesy Dorito finish," if you will. Also, don't try to deny that you tried one of these today - the evidence will be written in neon orange all over your lips for hours to come.
