| A dish from Frej |
Pop-up restaurants are usually publicity stunts devised by chefs hungry for a little press or event spaces that need to fill the seats on off nights. Not so with
Frej, a pop-up eater that's been operating out of Williamsburg's Kinfolk Studios for the past few weeks on Monday-Wednesday nights. This place is
completely off the radar - which is really surprising to us, seeing that the chefs there are cooking up a five-course menu of artfully composed Scandinavian Modern fare for the bargain price of $45 (and from what we hear from one raving fan, it's worth every penny). Even more curious, the folks behind the project hail from
Corton, and one had a stint in the kitchen of
WD-50. Cocktails and wine are also serve, in a space that can supposedly only host 25 or so diners at a time.
The temporary eatery does have a website (complete with video!),
which you can check out here. No end date for the project has been announced, but from what we understand the chefs can pack in their gear (which includes and induction burner and toaster oven) at pretty much any time. The word is getting out, so now is your time to make a reservation by emailing
info@frejnyc.com (service is from 6 to 10 PM). Oh, and in case you're wondering, the spots name comes from the Norse god of the harvest - duh!
