The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Scallops at Colonie

The menu at Colonie in Brooklyn Heights seems almost too simple to impress (ricotta crostini, beet salad, Brussels sprouts), but each dish was executed flawlessly with well-balanced elements and a few surprises. The offerings are recognizable, somewhat ubiquitous and could be considered rustic, but lazy comfort food this is not - you won't find mac 'n' cheese or gimmicks here.

The scallops were expertly seared and tender, with the hazelnuts offering a pleasant crunch and the apple complimenting its subtle sweetness. The sunchoke and tarragon rounded out the dish well, with all the elements combining to create a memorable first taste of Spring.
