The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Fried Oysters at Corkbuzz
We stopped by master sommelier Laura Maniec's Corkbuzz last night, a new wine studio/restaurant in the Village that boasts a well-curated list of wines alongside a full menu of small plates. The menu reflects a range of influences, mostly Italian and Spanish, but our favorite dish of the night was a dish with decidedly Asian roots - the fried kushi oysters. The oysters are coated in scallion pancake batter and are deep-fried to a crisp golden brown and served alongside a ponzu dipping sauce. The briny oysters are countered by the fluffy pancake batter and balanced perfectly by the hit of onion and salt in the ponzu. With oysters in the mix, (literally) these are definitely an upgrade from your typically bland, run-of-the-mill scallion pancake. Corkbuzz is located at 13 E. 13th Street; 646-873-6071.
