Sometimes the most transcendent version of a dish can be found in the most unassuming place. Case in point: tiny tucked-away West Village wine bar, Aria, a true neighborhood gem if ever there was one, (that is also perpetually packed due to its killer small plates, warm ambience and paltry prices), serves up some of the best meatballs we've had in the city. The simply-made all-beef meatballs are perfectly seasoned, soft, but not too soft, and smothered in a homemade tomato sauce which is laced with just the slightest bit of nutmeg and topped with shards of Parmigiano. Tasting is believing - head on over to Perry street and sample them for yourself. Aria is located at 117 Perry St. (212-242-4233).
