| Yep, this pizza costs $1000 |
Would you spend $100 on a cheesesteak? What about an egg that costs a cool grand? Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. Despite the economic downturn of the past four years, many eateries are still churning out ridiculously expensive dishes like the recession never happened. Some are exotic delicacies, while many others are just straight-up gimmicks. Next, check out our list of some of the most expensive dishes in the U.S. How much would you spend on a single item? Let us know in the comments.
That is a massive amount of caviar on the frittata.
ReplyDeleteThat frittata actually looks amazing.
Delete10 grams of caviar isn't very much...it's just under a third of an ounce..
DeleteWith an ounce being 28 grams it puts 10 grams just OVER a third. :)
DeleteIf you eat 23 carat gold covered ice cream do '49er's pan your potty?
ReplyDeleteI want Heinz with my foie gras damnit!
ReplyDeleteImagine if the server drops the FleurBurger on the way to the table? Or, if the chef overcooks it and it gets sent back?
ReplyDeleteI can see Mr. Burns eating one of these in front of an orphanage in Darfur.
That would be one fired employee!
DeleteI can see Mitt Romney joining him.
DeleteWe seem to have a little truth stretching here. A bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus goes for around $2,500 to $4,000 not including restaurant mark up so about 95% of the "cost" of this hamburger is the wine.
DeleteI'm vegetarian but I would buy one and feed it to my shih-tzu! He loves home cookin'
DeleteHow about frozen hot chocolate to wash down the sundae and hot dog at Serendipity 3?
ReplyDeleteMost of this looks GROSS!!! The true gormand appreciates the beautiful simplicity of a burger, maybe adorned with a slab of cheddar or swiss. Nothing is better than a grilled hotdog with kraut and mustard. I don't have any bones to pick with Foie Gras (wink-wink)as long as it stays where it belongs, at the beginning of a haute dinner, served with apple slices and toast points.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Caviar belongs on a blini, or mother of pearl spoon, not a pizza.
DeleteCaviar belongs on EVERYTHING!
DeleteNow, how about you write about the cheapest dishes that were actually exquisite...in the U.S., as if you were to go somewhere like Thailand, you'd be able to find all sorts of great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think the winner for me would be the $1 each al pastor tacos I bought from a food truck on the dirty, industrial Long Wharf Beach in New Haven, CT. You could watch the man slicing up the fresh pineapple right there, throwing the pork and spices and pineapple together to cook...it was absolutely exquisite.
Oh my it hurts to see all of these foods where we live in 3rd world country and daily meal only cost 2 bucks
ReplyDeleteLauren did you forget about the mac n cheese at the Waverly Inn?? no I know you didn't!
ReplyDeleteGrotesque.
ReplyDeleteSeems like we also pay for a lot of shipping cost!
ReplyDeleteSeveral of these go with one of my pet peeves: Kobe beef is not allowed to be imported into the US, so any special steak labeled "Kobe" (or even "Wagyu") is a fraud, and could be any stray steer with extreme price levels.
