Today, it's 23 degrees in Toronto - brrr! The folks there must really love to warm up by hitting the city's restaurants, as our just-released 2012 Toronto Restaurants Survey found that the city's residents eat out an average of 3.1 times each week. That beats out foodie meccas like New York (3.0) and Chicago (2.8) - very impressive! City residents report that they spend a pretty penny when they dine out, with 34% reporting that they spent more than last year. Oh, and servers thinking of a move to Canada might be spurred on by the news that the average tip in the city is 17.1% - cha-ching!
This year, 2,266 local diners reviewed 315 local restaurants - although the dining scene in town provided some pretty stiff competition, a few choice haunts came out on top. Scaramouche, located in Forest Hills, was the winner in the Food category, scoring an impressive 28 out of 30. The owners of that restaurant are clearly doing something right, as the sister location Scaramouche Pasta Bar and Grill landed in the top slot for Service. Canoe, located in the Dominion Bank Tower was on top (literally!) in the Decor category, while chain eatery Spring Rolls was voted the most popular.
Of course, plenty of other restaurants made our Top Lists. You can get a full view of the results at Zagat.com, and check out some exclusive listings of the winning eateries on our Google+ Page.
