Yesterday, we rounded-up some of the most
overrated eateries and food items of NYC, and today - we open up the debate to the rest of the country. Every U.S. city has its share of iconic eateries - you know, those ones that have been around forever and still have long lines snaking down the block. But are these iconic joints all up to snuff or do they just rest on the laurels of a killer reputation? Do
Pat's and
Geno's really have the best cheesesteaks in Philly? Is
In-N-Out really as good as Angelenos say it is? What iconic eateries are overrated in your town? Shout out your thoughts the comments.
Pink's Hot Dogs in LA!
ReplyDeletePink's Hot Dogs is absolutely not overrated. But, Okie Dog? Yes. Also: Carneys, Tommy's Burgers.
ReplyDeleteFor Cheesesteaks in Philly, I love Tony Luke's. In & Out is really good; their burgers and fries are fresh. Perhaps Pink's is a tad overrated. I had it the first time and loved it. A year & 1/2 later I went back and it wasn't as good as the first time, so I suppose the novelty wore off.
ReplyDeleteAs a New Yorker, Shake Shack is totally overrated as are any pizzerias with Ray's in the name.
East 6th Street Indian restaurants are overrated. That's "starter" Indian food as in if you've never had it, perhaps you can start there. Jackson Diner in Jackson Heights is also overrated. I've had better Indian in other restaurants in that area and in NJ.
Ben's chili bowl.....the food is too salty and they serve canned chili. Be original by recipe not a name. Hot dogs are three $ a piece and they are not made butchers. Washington ,DC Florida Ave NW
ReplyDeleteMother's and Brennan's in New Orleans.
ReplyDeletePat's and Geno's are mounds better than your regular pizza shop or hoagie shop. Cheesesteak! However both brands have been mimicked by many cheesesteak only shops throughout Philadelphia who serve an almost as good cheesesteak themselves. The fact is that the only places that stand to even compete with Pat's and Geno's are standalone cheesesteak shops. So "cheesesteak only" locations as a category are as a whole the best place to go.

Jack's Oysterhouse in Albany, NY. Most of the legislature have been lunching there for decades, but I don't get it. Maybe it used to be good, but I've never had anything more than mediocre food and annoying service there.
ReplyDeleteBerns Steakhouse in Tampa - OVERATED
ReplyDeleteGreenhouse Tavern in Cleveland. It's like the owners' egos trickled down to their service people.
ReplyDelete677 Prime in Albany NY
ReplyDeleteChico's Tacos in El Paso for sure.
ReplyDeleteBilly Goats Tavern
ReplyDeleteTufano's Italian restaurant in Chicago.
