|Old school Tavern on the Green|
A lot of people still mourn the loss of Tavern on the Green, but let's be honest, it was no one's favorite restaurant. Well, that might change with version 2.0 if any of the big names looking at the space end up actually taking it over. DNA Info reports that the city hosted a walk-through for potential tenants the other day, and some big names were in the house. Drew Nieporent, Bill Telepan, Mario Batali (Eataly North?), the Glazier Group and City Winery all had people in the house to check out the digs - any of those operators could make a huge improvement food-wise over the old Tavern. The city is luring big names with their renovation of the space - when it reopens next year, it will be much smaller than the original, and will focus on luring a neighborhood crowd rather than hosting a stream of banquets and parties. We hope one of the A-List names actually takes up the space - cause it will sure beat the hot dogs and other fare now available in Central Park.
