Zagat on NY1: A Look Inside North End Grill



In this week's NY1 video, we take a look at North End Grill, a new Battery Park New American from veteran restaurateur Danny Meyer and former Tabla chef and Top Chef Masters winner, Floyd Cardoz. The restaurant has been open for lunch for the last two weeks but after recently receiving their liquor license, they will open for dinner officially tonight.     I'll always remember the first time I discovered the delectable classical Peruvian cuisine in a little restaurant in Queens called El Anzuelo Fino -- the best meal ever. For starters “Papa a la Huancaina” (potato slices topped with a yellow cheese sauce) was served and at once opened up all the tastebuds, next we were treated to the traditional specialty originating in Peru and inspiring many mutant versions in South America "Ceviche" which served to stimulate the pallet with a delightful mix of a white fish that is cured in the lemon, lime, red onion, garlic and hot green and sweet red pepper marinade bursting with flavor. A savory poultry dish which had been marinated overnight in vinegar, raw garlic inserted into the skin and rubbed with spicy adobo, curry mixture that absolutely melted in your mouth and was served with a more bland boiled sweet potato over lettuce, huge Peruvian maiz chulpe (spectacularly large corn kernels,) and purple potato salad were on the side to complement the spicier appetizer and entree. Inca champagne and beer were served. Leche Asada (an amazing Peruvian custard) was served for desert. Simply sensational! Yum.
