Sweet Woodruff, Roostertail: Two New Gourmet Takeout Options

Takeout's come a long way, baby. Check out these two new spots offering ambitious grub for grab-and-go.

The latest offspring from the Sons & Daughters crew, Sweet Woodruff is a gourmet carry-out spot in Lower Nob Hill proffering a compact slate of innovative New American savory and sweet items - think suckling pig sandwich, pheasant hot pocket and banana cream pie flavored with the namesake sweet woodruff - all priced under $10; the tiny corner storefront is set up primarily for takeout, but there are 11 stools that line the weathered reclaimed wood front counter. It's open for now Tuesday-Sunday, 11 AM-7 PM, with breakfast and pop-up dinners in the works (798 Sutter St.; 415-292-9090).

A set of Postrio alums are behind Roostertail, a hip, fast-casual New American rotisserie off Upper Fillmore that offers a daily slate of spit-roasted free-range chickens, beef brisket sandwiches, seasonal sides and Americana desserts like ice-cream floats; everything is available to go or in the casual 49-seat, kid-friendly dining room and soon-to-be-opened patio; now offering call-ahead curbside concierge service Monday-Saturday (1963 Sutter St.; 415-776-6783).
