Panera Bread Opening First Manhattan Spot

Will New Yorkers riot when they see this wacky bagel?
New Yorkers, get ready: Panera Bread is set to open it's first Manhattan outpost next week. Freak. Out. The location will be down the block from Madison Square Garden, it will officially be the 1,500 location of the chain. Is the Big Apple ready? Judging by the reception that IHOP received when it recently opened on 14th Street, we're thinking the answer is yes (and an especially loud yes from the budget-minded/stoned diners out there). The new outpost will serve bagels, paninis, soups and salads for breakfast, lunch and dinner - and it surely won't be the last Panera that opens within the borders of NYC. Sounds pretty swell, but we're hoping that the chain will decide to open one of its pay-what-you-want locations within city limits soon. Look for the upcoming location to open on Tuesday (330 Seventh Ave.).

  1. Argh! Why can't the chains just leave us be!?! We have so many great bakeries in New York!

  2. Noooooo! Manhattan used to be so great because it was a respite from all these chains. (Uh, that said, I wouldn't mind a Chick-fil-A.)
