Bonnie's Grill: When the Giants and Patriots met in Super Bowl XLII, Bonnie's set its own record for wings served in a single day. Chef and owner Mike Naber is ready to sack that number for this year's rematch. Doors open at 1 PM and takeout will be available all day. Bonnie's classic wings were also just added to the menu at Abilene Restaurant in Carroll Gardens (442 Court Street, Brooklyn). If you're in the 'hood, definitely stop by. Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: 6,400 (278 Fifth Ave., Brooklyn; 718-369-9527).
Lansdowne Road: "Business as usual" (BAU) is Lansdowne's plan for the Super Bowl, says owner Dan McLaughlin. Eat-in or take-out, BAU means your choice of four traditional wing flavors - hot, medium, mild, or BBQ. Tip - their medium is equal if not hotter than hot at most places. If you can't handle the heat, don't make a false start. Take note of their blue cheese - it's mayo-iness is something special. Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: "more than 5,000" (599 10th Ave.; 212-239-8020).

Mudville 9: With more than 150 beers on tap, there is no shortage of beverages to wash your wings down with at this Downtown watering hole. Delivery or takeout, this family owned and operated bar since 1977 offers a wide range of flavors, from top seller Buffalo Medium to Thai. My personal favorite is Buffalo Super Wow, but don't sleep on Smokey BBQ. Both are Wingman approved. Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: 18,000 (126 Chambers St.; 212-964-9464).
Red Star: Home of the Raspberry BBQ wing, this spacious Greenpoint sports bar offers two floors of seating as well as a handful of takeout specials for those who want to bring a taste of Red Star to their home for the big game. The festivities will be kicking off early with drink specials from 2-5 PM. If you're looking to pre-game, this is the spot. Super Bowl Sunday is just the beginning of a wing-crazy month for their all-pro staff, who'll be hosting the Best Wings In Brooklyn Competition on February 25th. Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: 5,000 (37 Greenpoint Ave.; 718-349-0162).
Super Wings: Just in time for the coin flip, owner Colette Burnett is unveiling a second location at 888 Utica Avenue (at Church) on February 3rd. To celebrate, she is adding a limited edition rum-glazed version of the wing that celebrity chef Bobby Flay cooked up when she beat him in a Food Network "Throwdown" Special. Their current menu already boasts an impressive 10 Caribbean flavors. For the game, they'll be running specials on their five pound ($30) and ten pound($60) platters with the code word "SUPER" - use it! Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: 8,800 (1218 Union St.; 718-467-8737).
Wildwood BBQ: Pitmaster Big Lou will be in the house - holla! He'll be cooking up his Chipotle BBQ wings with his signature homemade chipotle sauce and spice rub, while the staff will be offering up red and blue face paint and noisemakers to fans. Each quarter they'll be giving away sweet prizes. Gameday menu specials include a pitmaster pigout platter and giant nachos for $29, and a Super Bowl party box for delivery. Estimated number of wings that will be served during the Super Bowl: too many to count (225 Park Ave S.; 212-533-2500).

I think this begs for a wing smackdown!
ReplyDeleteUltimate Wingman, how do you not include Blondies?
ReplyDeleteWings give me a boner
ReplyDeleteAnonymous above, that's the stupidest comment I've ever seen on a blog. Go away, you add nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think the racist and homophobic I've seen are more stupid.
ReplyDeleteLet's go, Wingman! Let's go Super Bowl!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Manny's On Second was formerly called "Blondie's" until it was sold a few year's ago. New owner, new name, same wings.
